A strike force trawling the dark web for alleged child abuse material has allegedly found more than 25,000 videos and images on the phone of a University of NSW student.
Ali Alghamdi, 35, was arrested by Sex Crimes detectives at the university campus in Randwick on Monday afternoon.
“During a search of the man’s phone, police allegedly located over 25,000 videos and images of child abuse material, including 42 marked as favourites,” police said in a statement on Tuesday.
Alghamdi was taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with using carriage service to access child abuse material.
He was refused bail to appear in Waverley Local Court on Tuesday.
