Stella died at Cork University Hospital on Monday night after suffering fatal injures during an incident at her family home in the Shrewsbury Downs, a mature residential development in Ballinlough where she lived for over 20 years. She and her husband Brian were injured and suffered stab wounds, the couple were brought to hospital, where Stella was tragically pronounced dead.
The community have been left in a state of sadness following such a shocking and tragic incident. Cllr Honore Kamegni said he knows many residents in the Shrewsbury Downs area and that he is standing with the community following this tragedy. He told CorkBeo this week: “It’s very painful to see this happen. It is not acceptable to carry out an attack on anybody or any community. I know many residents in that ward, and while I have not met Stella and Brian personally, I stand strongly with the community in this difficult time.”
A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attack and is before the courts. Councillor Peter Horgan said the incident has cast a dark cloud over the local community. He said: “It’s an awful tragedy, my prayers are with the victims and the wider family. Gardaí have now begun their investigation and must be given the space to do that, but the incident has cast a dark cloud over the entire parish; it’s a very sad situation.”
