A woman in her 70s has died in hospital following a collision involving two cars and a truck in Ardee, Co Louth this morning.

The woman was the driver and only occupant of one of the cars.

She was brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where she was pronounced deceased.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later.

Gardaí say they and emergency services attended the scene of “a fatal road traffic incident” on Bridge Street, Ardee, Co Louth, this morning.

“A collision occurred involving two cars and a truck at approximately 11.25am,” a Garda spokesperson said.

“No other injuries have been reported at this time.”

The road has closed for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

The incident comes following the death of five young people in a Co Louth crash last Saturday night.
