Mikko Rantanen‘s game has changed since arriving in Dallas, and after two straight games with a major penalty, he’s been automatically suspended by the NHL.A few days ago, Mikko Rantanen was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for his hit on New York Islanders Alexander Romanov, which resulted in the talented young star leaving the ice in immense pain from the unnecessary hit from Rantanen. This signals a major shift in the play style of Rantanen from his time in Colorado, and on Saturday, that transformation continued with yet another disgustingly dirty hit, this time on Calgary Flames forward Matt Coronato.

Mikko Rantanen suspended by the NHL

While the NHL’s Department of Player Safety are yet to come together for a hearing involving Rantanen, they have announced an automatic suspension for the Stars veteran as a result of having two game misconducts before playing 41 consecutive games without one.

That carries an automatic suspension of one game, and given how dirty and unnecessary both plays were, there’s a chance that he still gets a longer suspension from the league.

Unsurprisingly, fans have taken note of just how dirty Rantanen’s play has been as of late, and if the league have taken the same notice, it’s likely that he gets at least a game or two given how dirty and unnecessary these plays were.

Only time will tell whether or not the NHL’s DoPS comes down on Rantanen the way they should have after his hit on Romanov, because if they don’t this could continue, so it’s likely that he will be missing for at least two games moving forward.
