One woman was seen leaving the entrance to the accommodation in tears this afternoon after being refused access to get her mobile phone by an officer standing guard at the door.
She explained she had no landline, and no important numbers memorised, and was therefore unable to make contact with anyone at home after the tragedy.
A relief centre for those affected by the murder was set up at Wensum Community Centre, in Hotblack Road, but it is understood they have since been moved to a hotel.

Yesterday, a man had his essential medication – as well as his wallet – collected from his room by an officer, after some deliberation.
An eyewitness has described how a private ambulance arrived at the shared accommodation at about 6pm last night, before driving around to the right-hand side of the building.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out by a Home Office pathologist today to establish how the victim died.
On the morning of the murder, tenants say panicked screams of “someone’s dead” could be heard from the upper wing of the building.
A fire alarm was then set off, and occupants, many still in their pyjamas and slippers, fled down the stairs to escape.
The cordon around the student and professional accommodation will remain in place until at least tomorrow.
A police spokeswoman added: “At this stage it is believed to be an isolated event with no wider risk to the local community.”
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Norfolk police via their website or by calling 101, quoting incident number 51 of November 22, 2025.
