Earlier this month, the two leaders met in Busan, South Korea, and agreed to a trade deal that would see the U.S. lower its tariff on imported Chinese goods to 47% from 57%. In exchange, China promised to increase its purchases of U.S. soybeans, limit export restrictions on rare earths, and work to stop the flow of fentanyl into the U.S.

During the call, Xi stressed that “Taiwan’s return to China is an important component of the post-war international order.” He added that the U.S. and China worked together during World War II and should work together now to protect the achievements made from the war.

Furthermore, both the U.S. and China have taken action to implement the agreement reached in Busan. “Since the Busan meeting, China-US relations have generally remained stable and improved, which has been widely welcomed by both countries and the international community,” Xinhua said.

Finally, Xi said that China is in favor of ending the Ukraine-Russia war and hopes that the two countries will resolve their differences with a lasting peace agreement as soon as possible.
