An 84-year-old woman has been charged over an alleged hit-run crash that killed a six-year-old boy in regional Victoria in March.

Caleb Wesley was struck by a car as he was walking to school with two older children, aged nine and 12, on Bannockburn-Shelford Road in Teesdale, just after 8am on March 27.

Police allege the car left the scene and was later found at an address in Teesdale.

An 84-year-old Teesdale woman has been charged with failing to stop after a crash, failing to offer help, and failing to report a collision.

She has been bailed and will appear in court on Friday.

After Caleb’s death, Covenant College principal Joshua McEwen said the school community was “devastated” by the news.

“This has come as a huge shock to our close school community at Covenant College,” McEwen said.

“Our sympathies and prayers are with the family and we are offering support to them, as well as to students, staff and those affected by this loss.

“At this time our priority is the wellbeing of our school community, and we are praying that God’s peace and comfort will prevail for all at this time.”
