Evan Ferguson finally opened his account for Roma yesterday afternoon, scoring his side’s second goal in a 3-1 victory over Cremonese.
This was a key victory for Roma, sending the club top of Serie A. It would also prove to be a big occasion for their young Irish striker, who found the net with a fine finish just a few minutes after being introduced as a second half substitute.

Roma Manager Had Interesting Response To Evan Ferguson’s First Goal For Club

Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has been critical of Evan Ferguson at times this season, but the Italian was delighted with his contribution in this game.
Speaking after the match, Gasperini identified the Irishman’s goal as the key point in earning the victory for his side.
We’re happy for him, of course, but overall it was a very important goal for all of us.
It made the score 2-0, and while we’d had other chances earlier in the game, we were playing well and creating many major chances, that second goal made us realise that we could win…
To keep playing the way we’ve been playing. I’ve already said this: there’s nothing wrong with dreaming when you’re doing great, but we know very well that dreams rarely come true.
It’s very nice to experience this dream and we will enjoy it as long as we can. We pretend to wake up and sleep a bit longer – that way it will last longer.
Roma now sit top of Serie A, two points clear of AC Milan and Napoli.
Gasperini celebrated the goal ferociously in the stands, having been sent off due to clash on the sideline just moments before. Clearly, he still feels that Evan Ferguson can be an important player for the club over the remainder of the season.
There had been some questions about the Meath man’s future at the club, but this goal will buy him more time to get the Roma fans back on side.
He will now be aiming to fight his way back into the starting XI, with the domestic and continental fixtures set to come thick and fast over the coming weeks.
