Two Donegal farmers’ prize heifers were sold for a massive €15,000 each at a mart in Roscommon this week.

Dermot McGinley’s Hazard-bred young cow (main pic) turned heads when it entered the ring at the Carrick-on-Shannon Winter Fair on Monday.

The Glenswilly man’s heifer also won her Belgian Blue class the previous day.

A heifer belonging to another Donegal farmer, Pearse McNamee from Convoy, was sold for €15,000 at the same sale on Monday.

Cattle enthusiasts from across the country were at the ringside to view the sale.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor, Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly, praised both men, saying they were an example to the farming community in Donegal.
