The European Film Academy announced the nominations for the 2026 European Film Awards in the crafts categories Wednesday, with Yorgos Lanthimos‘ dark comedy Bugonia, Olivier Laxe’s post-apocalyptic road movie Sirāt, and Mascha Schilinski’s multigenerational German period drama Sound of Falling leading the pack with five nominations each.

Bugonia, a deeply weird reinterpretation of Jang Joon-Hwan’s deeply weird 2003 Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet!, picked up nominations for best original score, editing, hair and makeup, production design and sound design.

Sirāt, an oddly hopeful look at death and the end of the world, set to a throbbing techno beat, was nominated for best casting, cinematography and editing, as well as best production and best sound design.

Sound of Falling, which cross-cuts the stories of four young women growing up on the same small farm in four different generations, was nominated for best casting, cinematography, original score, costume, hair and makeup.

Both Sirāt and Sound of Falling are also up for best European Film at the EFAs. Bugonia has a single nomination in the main EFA categories, a best European director nod for Lanthimos.

Joachim Trier’s Norwegian melodrama Sentimental Value, which leads the main EFA categories with five nominations, including for best European film, picked up three arts and craft noms: for best casting, best original score and best production design. The only other multiple crafts nominee was Agnieszka Holland’s Franz Kafka biopic Franz, which garnered noms for costumes and hair and makeup.

The 2026 European Film Awards will be held in Berlin on Jan. 17.
