In 2023, the EU’s total agricultural output was valued at €537 billion.
Data show that 5 regions in the EU, classified at level 2 of the nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS 2), have a total agricultural output value above €9 billion. The highest output value was in Andalucía, Spain (€16 billion), followed by Bretagne in France (€11 billion), Weser-Ems in Germany and Lombardia in Italy (€9.8 billion each), and Pays de la Loire in France (€9.3 billion).

Vegetable and horticultural output varies across regions
Within the EU’s total agricultural output, the value of vegetables and horticultural products was €71.5 billion in 2023. This was the highest value of any of the crop products and represented 13.3% of the overall total.
Among EU regions, the output value of vegetable and horticultural products in 2023 was highest in Andalucía, Spain (€5.2 billion) and Zuid-Holland in the Netherlands (€5.0 billion). Puglia and Campania in Italy and Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands followed, each producing output valued at €1.8 billion. In total, there were 14 EU regions that generated output values of vegetable and horticultural products greater than €1 billion: 5 in Italy, 5 in the Netherlands and 4 in Spain.

In 4 NUTS 2 regions, the share of the output value of vegetable and horticultural products in total agricultural output exceeded 50%: Wien in Austria (77.2%), Zuid-Holland in the Netherlands (68.4%), Liguria in Italy (65.0%) and Hamburg in Germany (50.8%). In another 16 regions, vegetable and horticultural products represented between 30% and almost 50% of the total agricultural output value, ranging from 31.7% in La Rioja, Spain to 48.5% in Noord-Holland in the Netherlands.
