York police have arrested and charged a man after he allegedly attempted to enter several homes in the Markham area this month.
In a release, police said officers were called to a break-and-enter in progress in the area of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue East just before 7 a.m. on Nov. 18.
The suspect had entered a home through an unlocked side door police said, before getting scared off when “confronted” by the homeowner.
Investigators later learned that the same suspect had unsuccessfully attempted to break into at least two other homes in the area.
Nishanth Selvaratnam, 36, of Markham, was arrested on Nov. 26.
He has been charged with break-and-enter with intent, breach of probation, and two counts of trespass at night.
Police believe there may be additional victims and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward and contact investigators at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7545, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
