Flamengo confirmed their status as Brazil’s most successful club in Copa Libertadores history, lifting South America’s continental football trophy for the fourth time after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over rivals Palmeiras in Saturday’s (29 November) final played at the Estadio Monumental in Lima, Peru.

The decisive moment arrived in the 67th minute when former Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Juventus defender Danilo rose highest from a Giorgian de Arrascaeta corner to power a header into the bottom corner, giving Flamengo the edge.

Palmeiras came close to levelling the scores late in the game. Victor Roque had a golden chance in the final minutes of normal time but blazed his shot over the bar from close range, while Everton’s low, driven free-kick in stoppage time was tipped onto the post by goalkeeper Carlos Miguel.

Despite the tense finish, Flamengo held on to secure the historic win.
