One man has been killed and another seriously injured in a crash on the M4 in the early hours of Sunday morning, police have confirmed.

The man, who has not yet been named by police, was 32, and died in the collision at around 2am on Sunday (November 30).

Police are appealing for other drivers on the M4 at that time to come forward, especially if they had dashcams running.

The collision occurred on the eastbound carriageway going away from Bristol towards Swindon, between junction 18 for Bath and junction 17 for Chippenham.

Wiltshire police said the incident was a single vehicle collision, with the driver losing control and crashing close to Leigh Delamare services.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire police said: “We are sad to report that a 32-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle on the M4, in the early hours of this morning.

“The man’s next of kin have been informed and they are receiving support from specially trained officers.

“Our thoughts are with them,” he added.

“Another man who was in the car is receiving hospital treatment for serious injuries.

“The collision took place at about 2am this morning (30/11) on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 between Junction 17 and Junction 18.

“Wiltshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team is appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage taken from the time to contact them on 01225 694597 quoting log number 40 of today’s date (30/11).

Alternatively email SCIT@wiltshire.police.uk ,” the police spokesperson added.

Drivers have been diverted around the crash scene using the A46 and A420 between Chippenham and Cold Ashton, near Bath.

A second collision later on Sunday morning blocked two lanes of the M4 eastbound between Bristol and Bath.

At 11.30am, the eastbound M4 between junction 18 for Bath and junction 17 for Chippenham remained closed.
