The deal is reportedly done, with Thomas Müller expected to land in Vancouver in the not-so-distant future.

This signing is a move unlike any other in Vancouver Whitecaps history. Müller is a global star, having played his entire career with Bayern Munich, winning 13 Bundesliga championships and capturing the Champions League title on two occasions.

The 35-year-old has played in four FIFA World Cups, lifting the trophy in 2014 as Germany’s top goal scorer.

To get a sense of Müller’s global fame, the German forward has 14.8 million followers on Instagram. By comparison, Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, and Thatcher Demko have less than a million followers combined. Combine the followers of Seth Rogen, Michael Bublé, and Steve Nash, and it’s still a lower number than Müller.

So when will we see him?

A report from Christian Falk from BILD out of Germany states that Müller will sign a contract in Vancouver on Friday (Aug. 1). The deal is expected to run until the end of the 2026 season.

Müller’s debut should come soon after that.

Vancouver has four matches scheduled in August, beginning with a pair of road games on Aug. 9 and Aug. 13.

Manuel Veth of Transfermarkt is reporting he was told to circle Aug. 17 on his calendar. That’s the date of the Whitecaps’ next home match at BC Place, a tilt against the Houston Dynamo.

The Whitecaps also play a home match the following weekend, on Aug. 23, against St. Louis SC.

Expect a huge crowd to pack BC Place whenever Müller makes his Vancouver debut, as this is an unprecedented move by the Whitecaps. We’ve seen many stars move from European clubs to join MLS, but Müller is the first to choose Vancouver.
