UPDATE: Winter Storm Warnings now issued for parts of Michigan ahead of Monday’s heavy snowfall.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch that will stretch from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning for three counties along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

The Winter Storm Watch covers Ottawa, Muskegon and Oceana counties, including the cities of Grand Haven, Muskegon, Jenison and Hart.

Snowfall totals of 6 to 10 inches are possible with this storm system, the National Weather Service meteorologists in Grand Rapids said.

Snow is expected to return to Michigan on Monday, but the areas under the Winter Storm Watch are expected to see the biggest accumulations.

“Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous,” the advisory states. “Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are possible and may make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.“

Late Monday afternoon and evening will see the snow showers intensify, the forecast shows.

“If travel is necessary, drive with caution and expect snow-covered roads and slippery conditions.”
