After his recent running of magnificent form, Troy Parrott was brought back down to earth in dramatic fashion on Sunday evening.
The Ireland striker was in the AZ Alkmaar team for their league clash at FC Twente, a game in which his side trailed heading into injury time. Alkmaar were then awarded a late penalty, with Parrott having the opportunity to level the score from the spot after being brought down in the box.
It’s fair to say things did not go to plan.

The Dubliner would opt for a ‘panenka’ penalty, attempting to chip the ball down the middle. Unfortunately, the execution was poor and the ball sailed over the crossbar.

AZ Alkmaar Boss Did Not Mince His Words On Troy Parrott Penalty
This loss would see AZ Alkmaar drop to fourth place in the Eredivisie table, with the top three qualifying for the Champions League at the end of the campaign.
Speaking after the game, AZ boss Maarten Martens said that Troy Parrott had apologised for the penalty, admitting that he would speak to the Ireland star about the situation over the coming days.
It was poor finishing.
If he chipped it there and scored, he’d be doing well. Troy took responsibility; he gave it his all today, but didn’t finish well. He’s already taken responsibility for that with the rest of the team.
He took responsibility for the loss of points, and rightly so. He can do much better than this, he realises that himself. It wasn’t good enough today. He’s still a striker, and he is creative.
We’ll definitely talk about it.
Troy Parrott has been in spectacular form for AZ this season, meaning they are unlikely to hold this miss against him for too long.
He will have the chance to bounce back from this disappointment when the club face PEC Zwolle in the cup on Wednesday evening, before hosting Go Ahead Eagles in a league match at the weekend.
