Massachusetts is preparing for a snow storm to hit on Tuesday — with the chance for more flakes later in the week.

Monday’s forecast is dry and blustery statewide, according to the National Weather Service. Though winds are expected to die down by Monday afternoon, forecasters predict temperatures may dip to the 20s overnight.

Snow will begin to fall in Massachusetts on Tuesday morning. A winter storm watch has been issued for Western and Central Massachusetts from late Tuesday morning into Tuesday night.

Up to 6 inches of heavy snow is possible for Central and Western Massachusetts, according to forecasters. Some parts of Eastern Massachusetts could also receive accumulation.

Forecasters warn the storm will impact commutes on Tuesday morning and in the evening. Conditions will be plowable for much of the state.

However, forecasters say there’s a chance parts of the state in lower elevation will receive rain instead of snow. If there is snowfall, it may not accumulate — and areas along the southern coastline could receive up to an inch of rain.

The precipitation isn’t expected to end until early Wednesday morning. Forecasters are eyeing an Arctic front to move in to the state by Thursday night, bringing with it the chilliest air of the season yet in single digit temperatures.

More snow showers could be on the way Thursday, though forecasters are watching for what the possible accumulation will be.
