On 28 November, SIPRI expert Giovanna Maletta launched a new policy brief at the Call to Europe conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The policy brief ‘ReArm Europe: The Impact and Role of EU Arms Export Controls’ was published in partnership between SIPRI and the Foundation for European Progressive Studies. The brief examines European Union (EU) efforts to strengthen the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base as part of wider rearmament plans and efforts to create free movement of defence items within the EU and harmonize EU member states’ arms export controls. It provides recommendations for the EU and its member states to allow the EU to address its legitimate security concerns without creating greater risks.
The report’s author, Giovanna Maletta, Senior Researcher in the SIPRI Dual-Use and Arms Trade Control Programme, presented key findings of the brief during a closed-door session on the future of EU defence.
