Highland councillors have rejected plans for a 61-bedroom hotel and a business park in the Black Isle village of Tore.

Springfield Properties had sought planning permission in principle from Highland Council’s north planning applications committee for its proposals, which also include a park-and-ride.

Planning officials had recommended approval, but the committee backed a motion from Independent councillor Sarah Atkin to refuse consent.

She raised concerns about traffic management, drainage and said she doubted the project would bring benefits to the community.

Council officers said there were “viable options” to deal with traffic.

The local authority had received 14 objections to the proposals, with road safety and scale of the plans among the concerns raised.

The proposed site is bounded by the A835 road and a national cycle route to the north and the A832 to the south, with the A9’s Tore roundabout east of the location.
