The Hoops legend stepped back into the dugout in the club’s moment of need when Brendan Rodgers‘ announced his resignation at the end of October.
He’s overseen first team matters over the past four weeks as the Scottish Premiership champions carried out their recruitment process for a new head coach.
The man they’ve identified as Rodgers’ permanent replacement is, as widely expected, Wilfried Nancy, who will arrive after Wednesday’s home game against Steven Pressley’s side.

O’Neill told the media this lunchtime: “You will be relieved to know that this will definitely it for tomorrow evening.
“So, I’ve been assured by the board. The new man will come in. I’m not sure in terms of the process, but I know this is definitely my last game.”
He continued: “That was the remit. Whether I was going to last two weeks, or five or six weeks, that was always going to be the case. I’ve got no complaints at all.
“I think it’s great so it’s not a continuation. A young gentleman’s coming in, and it’s over to him, but obviously we’ve got a big game here tomorrow evening and I’d like to win it if we can.
“It won’t be easy. Dundee did us a few weeks ago, so we’ve got a bit of a job on our hands.”
Asked if he will enjoy the chance to say goodbye to his adoring Celtic fans in one last home match, O’Neill struggled to hide his smile.

He said: “Everybody has an ego of some description. Mine is probably bigger than most.
“It’s about trying to win the game really. Whatever comes or goes after that, I just think the nice thing about the players is they’ve responded and have shown a willingness to show some of the things that I think are important about the game.
“I couldn’t praise the players highly enough. We’ve got one more game to go, for me, they’ve got big, big nights ahead.”
More to follow.
