When no candidate received a majority of the vote in the Nov. 4 general election, the two top finishers advanced to the runoff. This is the first time a mayoral race in New Jersey’s second largest city did not have an incumbent running since 2013, when Steve Fulop was elected. Fulop decided not to seek reelection and instead ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for governor.
