Blue Mountains Line passengers are advised to allow extra travel time or make alternative travel arrangements today, Wednesday 3 December, after a car crashed onto the tracks at Blaxland, forcing the suspension of Sydney Trains services between Springwood and Penrith.
15 replacement buses are running between Springwood and Penrith. Trains are running between Lithgow, Mount Victoria and Springwood and T1 Western trains are running to timetable between Emu Plains and Central.
The car crashed onto the tracks at about 5:45am this morning. It caused extensive damage to the overhead wiring when it crashed from a height onto the tracks, which sit in a narrow gorge. The operation to remove the car is complicated and will be carried out by Sydney Trains and Fire & Rescue NSW.
Our crews are on site with emergency services working to remove the car, conduct assessments of our infrastructure, and repair the overhead wiring as soon as possible. The extensive work to repair the overhead wiring is expected to take the rest of the day, so trains will not be running between Springwood and Penrith during the afternoon peak. Sydney Trains will advise if services resume or if the impact is expected to continue tomorrow.
Passengers are advised to plan their journey by visiting transportnsw.info or using the trip planning apps on their mobile devices. Please also listen to announcements on board and at stations for updated information and make alternative arrangements where possible.
The Uber surge price cap is in place in the Blue Mountains area for passengers who choose to use the service.
Sydney Trains appreciates how frustrating this is for passengers in the Blue Mountains and apologises for the inconvenience.Â
