A tow-truck driver is dead after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 401 Wednesday morning.
Just after 7 a.m., emergency crews were called to the area of Hwy. 401 near Oxford Road 3 for reports someone had been hit by a vehicle.
“Investigation determined that the individual was a tow-truck operator that was assisting a stranded motorist on the side of the road when they were struck and killed by an unknown vehicle,” Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter.
“To all family members and friends that are affected by this tragedy, I just want to extend my deepest and sincerest condolences. You’re in our thoughts,” Sanchuk said.
The westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 between Cedar Creek Road and Oxford Road 29 are expected to be closed for several hours as part of the investigation.
Sanchuk says they’re asking anyone who may have witnessed what happened or have dash cam video of the area between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. to contact investigators with the Oxford OPP.
