While last night’s draw at home against Sunderland was not the worst Liverpool result this season, you could argue that it was among the team’s most damning performances during their recent disastrous run.
Arne Slot’s side were incredibly poor in this game, especially in the first half. Sunderland dominated proceedings and were unfortunate not to go into the interval in the lead.
Liverpool would improve a bit in the second half, although they would rely on an own goal to get a point from the game. They would also need a heroic goal line clearance in stoppage team in order to avoid yet another Anfield defeat.
Having beaten West Ham last weekend, this was a reminder that the issues within the team are still very much ongoing.

Perhaps the most concerning aspect of Liverpool’s performance last night was the manner in which they approached the game.
Far from the pressing machine that we became accustomed to seeing during the Jurgen Klopp era, the home side sat back and allowed the visitors to stroke that ball around at will. It was something that their fans were baffled by.
We’ve set up here like we’re playing PSG away from home. I know Sunderland have had a decent start to the season but this is embarrassing.

As it turns out, the opposition were also taken aback by the tactic.
Speaking after the game, Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris admitted he was shocked to see Liverpool drop off his team in the manner that they did.
“It’s a good result for both sides, we were surprised to have time and space to build up play”

I am not disappointed because it is a point away at Anfield. It is a privilege to play our football here.
After a good first half, we spoke at half-time and said that it was possible to push a little more because we played well – we just needed the belief that we could score.
As expected, the opponent came back into the game with substitutes and the crowd but we defended well and had a chance to score the second goal after their equaliser but it wasn’t to be…
We were maybe a bit surprised to have controlled the game so we told the players to believe and push more because it was possible to score.
Opposition teams admitting they were given a fairly easy ride during a trip to Anfield is not something you would expect to hear.
This, perhaps even more than the recent results, does not bode well for Arne Slot’s future as Liverpool manager.
