Queen Camilla favored shades of green in a Fiona Clare gown and emerald and diamond jewelry for the state banquet honoring German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Budenbender on Wednesday night at Windsor Castle in Windsor, England.

For the official royal engagement, the queen consort styled an ornately designed green lace gown with botanical inspiration throughout. Queen Camilla’s dress featured long sleeves and a flowing skirt with subtle pleating in a deep shade of emerald.

A mix of florals and leaves cascaded throughout the design of the piece. The Fiona Clare-designed gown’s deep green shade served as the color palette for Queen Camilla’s accessories, which included the Greville emerald and diamond necklace.

Along with the dazzling emerald statement necklace, Queen Camilla also wore the historic Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, which once belonged to Queen Mary and dates back to the late 19th century. The tiara was later passed on to Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Mary’s granddaughter, and was worn by the long-reigning sovereign on several occasions throughout her historic reign.

Following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022, Queen Camilla inherited the famous jewelry piece, wearing the tiara for the first time in October 2023. While Queen Camilla’s jewelry pieces honored the late Queen Elizabeth II, Kate Middleton opted for jewelry with a connection to Germany.

The Princess of Wales debuted Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet tiara, which was commissioned by Garrard in the mid-19th century by Queen Victoria’s husband, the German-born Prince Albert. She coordinated the statement jewelry piece with her Jenny Packham gown in a shade of Berlin blue and allover sequins.

The United Kingdom state visit from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Budenbender marks the first for Germany in 27 years. Along with Wednesday night’s banquet, a ceremonial welcome was performed for the couple and public outings are planned before the state visit concludes on Friday.
