Peel Regional Police are investigating after a man was sent to hospital in critical condition following a shooting in Mississauga Thursday.

Police said it received calls for a shooting near Derry Road and Cardiff Boulevard at 11:01 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to a nearby trauma centre.

Const. Tyler Bell told reporters investigators believe a robbery unfolded before the shooting took place.

“The victim who was shot, along with an adult female, were aboard the black Cadillac Escalade … at which point a confrontation occurred between three individuals,” he said, adding the victim fled on foot and was followed by the suspects to an adjacent parking lot where he was shot.

Investigators added the three male suspects, who they believe were also armed with a baseball bat officers recovered, then drove away from the scene heading westbound in a black Jeep Wrangler.
