The draw for the 2026 World Cup was concluded on Friday afternoon, where all 48 nations and a further 16 still to face off in the play-offs learned their fates ahead of next year’s tournament. Itās the most prestigious competition in football and the most watched sporting event all around the world and it will be the biggest World Cup in history. The competition has been expanded from 32 nations to 48 with the majority already securing their place – six play-off winners are still to be determined.
It will truly be a carnival of football next summer across the three host countries – the United States, Mexico and Canada – who all qualified automatically. The World Cup will commence on June 11, with the final taking place the following month on July 19. Supporters from all over the globe will be tuned in to the draw and weāve provided all the relevant information to help understand the process. Who is in the play-offs?
You can read a detailed explanation of the play-off ties here but hereās a brief breakdown. In the European play-offs, the winners of Wales vs Bosnia will play the winners of Italy vs Northern Ireland. Ukraine vs Sweden will face off before playing the victorious nation from Poland vs Albania. Slovakia vs Kosovo will take on either Turkiyie or Romania. And the winners of Czech Republic vs Republic of Ireland will take on Denmark or North Macedonia. In the intercontinental play-offs, New Caledonia face Jamaica to progress to the decider against DR Congo. While the winners of Bolivia vs Suriname will take on Iraq.
