The Toronto Police Service says one of its officers shot a civilian at Danforth GO station early Saturday morning.
Officers were initially called to the area of Main Street and Stephenson Avenue just after 1 a.m. for reports of a person with a gun.
According to authorities, a man was located with a firearm and he was shot at by police.
The man was then transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Ontario police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), has invoked their mandate.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police, among other officials, that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.Â
