The report refers to a strike two weeks ago in Ain El-Hilwe near Sidon in which the Air Force targeted terrorists operating in a Hamas training compound in southern Lebanon.
“The military compound that was struck was used by terrorists of the organization for training and courses in order to plan and carry out terrorist activities against IDF forces and the State of Israel,” the statement said. According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, 14 people were killed and four were injured in that strike.
According to intelligence information cleared for publication, the cell operated from within Lebanese territory and planned to infiltrate communities in the Galilee, apparently for the purpose of carrying out attacks against civilians or an attempted kidnapping.
Security officials said that information about the planned infiltration was received in advance, and as a result, intelligence and operational measures were activated to foil the plan before it began. Full details of the operation and the cell have not yet been cleared for publication.
The IDF Spokesperson said: “IDF forces are constantly working to detect and thwart infiltration attempts from every arena, and will continue to act determinedly to ensure the security of the residents of the north.”
