Police have arrested a teenager and are searching for another alleged offender after a man died in Melbourne’s inner north on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities were called to the intersection of Maribyrnong and Union roads in Ascot Vale about 3.45pm after reports of a man with stab wounds.

The man was treated at the scene and transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

The man has yet to be formally identified.

Police believe two alleged offenders fled the scene. They arrested an 18-year-old man on Ascot Street about 4pm and continue to search for the second person.

Police are patrolling the area as part of their search and have established a crime scene.

Local resident Lucia Frazzetto works at a nearby cafe and said it was a shock to hear about the incident.

“It is a surprise. It’s a nice place to live,” Frazzetto said.
