Snowy conditions and bitter wind chills will move into southern Ontario this week as a surge of cold air settles across the region.

Here’s what the weather will look like for the week of Dec. 8 to Dec. 14:

Monday will start sunny before a mix of sun and cloud develops in the afternoon. Winds will stay light near 15 km/h, but the morning will feel extremely cold with wind chills near –20 C. Daytime highs will struggle to reach –5 C, feeling closer to –9 C through the afternoon. Overnight will be partly cloudy with a low near –12 C and wind chills around –17 C.

On Tuesday, periods of snow are expected to develop with temperatures climbing to 0 C. Several centimetres of snow are anticipated as flurries continue overnight with a low of –3 C.

A mix of snow or rain is likely on Wednesday as slightly milder air moves in, bringing highs near 3 C. Snow accumulations may reach between 5 to 5 cm. Cloudy periods continue into the evening with a 40 per cent chance of flurries and a low of –7 C.

Thursday will stay cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries and a high of –4 C. It will stay cloudy throughout the night with a 30 per cent chance of snow and a low near –8 C.

Flurries become more likely on Friday, with a 60 per cent chance of snow and a high near –4 C. Snow could continue into the evening as temperatures drop to -8 C.

Saturday remains cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a high near –4 C. By evening, temperatures will drop quickly, feeling as cold as –16 C with the wind.

Environment Canada has not issued any weather alerts as of now for southern Ontario — including Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton and Durham — though advisories may be issued if snowfall intensifies.
