Organised by World Squash, the sport’s global governing body, this edition marks the fifth staging of the tournament and the third consecutive time it is being hosted in Chennai.

The 2025 Squash World Cup will see 12 nations, including defending champions Egypt and Malaysia, the runners-up from the last edition, compete for the mixed-team title.

Anahat Singh, India’s top-ranked women’s squash player at world No. 29, will make her World Cup debut. Aged 17, Anahat will be the youngest player at the Squash World Cup 2025.

Veteran Joshna Chinappa, 39, returns after helping India secure bronze in 2023 – the nation’s best-ever finish at the event.

Anahat Singh and Joshna Chinappa also teamed up to win gold at the Asian Squash Doubles Championship earlier this year.

Abhay Singh, India’s top-ranked men’s player at world No. 28, will also be joined by Velavan Senthilkumar, who will also be making his Squash World Cup debut.

The duo has found success representing India in previous competitions by winning the 2024 and 2025 Asian Doubles Squash Championships and the 2022 Men’s Asian Squash Team Championships.

The teams have been split into four pools (A to D) of three for the group stages, following which the top two from each pool will advance to the quarter-finals. There will also be classification matches to determine every team’s finishing ranks.

Squash World Cup 2025 teams and pools

Pool A: Hong Kong China, South Africa, Republic of Korea

Pool B: India, Brazil, Switzerland

Pool C: Malaysia, Australia, Poland

Pool D: Japan, Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran

As per the squash World Cup format, each team will feature two men and two women. The match structure introduced in 2023 continues, with ties consisting of four best-of-five-game matches.

Each game is a race to seven points. At 6-6, sudden death decides the winner.

Woman #1 and Man #1 matches will be worth two points each, while Woman #2 and Man #2 matches will be worth a point each. Knockout ties will be decided on game difference if teams are even on points.

The Squash World Cup was launched in 1996, with Australia winning the inaugural crown in Malaysia. England lifted the trophy in 1999 before Egypt won the 2011 edition, also in Chennai. After a 12-year hiatus, the tournament returned in 2023 with Egypt emerging as champions again.

This year’s tournament will see four more teams than the 2023 edition.
