* Denotes a Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender

Eight of the 17 goaltenders have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on this list — over 50 percent — while Michel “Bunny” Larocque (1977, 1978, 1979, & 1981) and Igor Shesterkin (2022) have won Vezina Trophies. Clint Benedict — the ninth fastest goaltender to reach 100 wins — was one of the most influential netminders in NHL history, as he was responsible for the rule change in 1918 that allowed goalies to stop the puck with their feet, per NHL.com.

Thompson won 31 of his 43 appearances during his first season with the Capitals and is off to another strong start this year, earning 13 victories in his first 21 games. Prior to his arrival in DC, Thompson won 56 games in 103 appearances with the Vegas Golden Knights over a span of four seasons.

In total, Thompson has a record of 100-44-19 in 167 career games played. He is the early frontrunner to take home this season’s Vezina Trophy.
