Six youths aged 13 to 16 have been charged over the stabbing of a 15-year-old boy at a Perth high school.

Police were called to Ellenbrook Secondary College, in Perth’s north-east, about 3pm on Monday, after reports of an altercation between a group of youths.

The school was put in lockdown, and police arrested the teenagers just after 4pm.

Police allege the group of teenagers assaulted the boy outside the main college building before fleeing the scene, leaving him with lacerations to his arm and head.

The 15-year-old was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

String of charges laid

His alleged attackers include two 16-year-olds, one 15-year-old, two 14-year-olds and one 13-year-old.

The teenagers have been charged with several offences, including assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful wounding, disorderly behaviour, and being armed in a way that may cause fear.

One is additionally charged with possessing an edged weapon.

Three of the youths are due before Perth Children’s Court today, and the others will face court at a later date.

‘Traumatic event’ for students

Speaking on Monday, WA Police Inspector Gary Butler said all students had the right to feel safe at school.

“This is a tragic and completely unacceptable situation,” he said.

“You can imagine it’s just very traumatic that you’re witnessing such an event, you just want to leave school and go home, and get confronted with this kind of incident.”

Police said their investigation was ongoing, and have called for anyone with information or footage relating to the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
