A Status Orange wind warning is due to come into effect for counties Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Wexford at 7am as Storm Bram makes landfall.
Met Éireann has said the storm will bring heavy rain and very strong winds, and it has the potential to become an impactful event.
A second Status Orange wind warning for several other parts of the country will come into effect later this morning.
It will cover Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, as well as all of Connacht from 10am.
The rest of the country is already under a Status Yellow wind alert until 9pm tonight, with a similar warning in place in Northern Ireland.
A Status Yellow rain warning is in effect in Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford until 9am.
A Status Red Marine Warning has also been issued for western coastal areas today.
Met Éireann has warned that there is a “significant chance” Storm Bram will bring coastal flooding along the south and west coasts at high tide this morning, and along the east coast during this afternoon.
The forecaster has also said the situation will be exacerbated by any rain falling on already saturated ground.
People are being advised to take the necessary precautions and allow extra time for travel today.
Local authorities have said they are monitoring the situation closely and have their ground crews on standby should an incident arise.
