The last few days were hugely successful for Kerry football, with three of the county’s clubs winning Munster titles at various levels. Dingle would win the senior title, with Ballymacelligot winning the junior crown. An Ghaeltacht would complete the set, with the intermediate winners also having a Cork flavour to their team.

Former Cork dual star Aidan Walsh has been a key part of their success this season, having transferred to the club for the 2025 campaign. The Kanturk native had been living in the area for a number of years with his young family and finally took the plunge by switching clubs.

The move has proven to be a hugely successful one for all involved. Not only would An Ghaeltacht claim the Kerry intermediate crown, but they have now added a first Munster title at this level since 2017.

Cork Legend Retaining County Identity Despite Kerry Club Move

Aidan Walsh has fully embraced his new surroundings, speaking earlier this season about the remarkable welcome he has received at the Irish-speaking club.

The 35-year old was in a reflective mood after Saturday’s final against Cork side Aghabullogue, admitting that winning a provincial title was not something he would have thought possible at his age. He also said he is retaining his home county identity despite becoming more engrained in the club.

I thought I’d never be back in this position again, so like that, I’m very fortunate, lucky that I was able to get over the line…

We’ll enjoy the next few days. At my age now to get the opportunity to play in an All-Ireland semi-final, it might never come around again, so I’m just really going to enjoy it…

I continue to say I’m a Cork man, but I play for An Ghaeltacht. People were saying to me in the build-up to the game today, ‘How do you feel now playing against Aghabullogue?’

The only two teams I would never play against are Kanturk and Cork. I have no affiliation with Aghabullogue, it’s just like playing any other team.

I’ve really enjoyed this year, it’s a great club, very passionate club, they love their football. I’m just very lucky to have come into the club where they’re at the start of a trajectory. Ten minors came into the group this year, it’s a very young team.

An Ghaeltacht will enjoy this victory over the coming days, before their focus quickly switches towards the All-Ireland series in the new year.

They will be hoping that the Cork man in their side can continue to make a big contribution as the team go in search of a first All-Ireland title in the club’s history.
