Storm Bram is bearing down on the UK as I write.

Heavy rains have fallen overnight with over 50mm across higher ground in south-Wales and south-west England already – and there’s more to come.

Amber rain warnings from the Met Office remain in place until late morning in both these areas, and yellow rain warnings across western and northern parts of the UK are also in place.

Just a reminder amber weather warnings can bring a danger to life.

This is an evolving situation when weather and flood warning details are likely to be changing – the latest weather warnings from the Met Office can be found here, and flood warnings here.

As we go through the morning, heavy rain will spread right across Scotland whilst becoming more fragmented across Northern Ireland, England and Wales but intense bursts continue.

Winds are expected to strengthen this afternoon with particular concern for north-west Scotland, where damaging gusts could reach 90mph (145km/h).

Many parts of the country will be battered by gales or severe gales this afternoon and overnight, as winds up to 70mph (113km/h) are also forecast elsewhere.
