A Sydney lawyer who narrowly avoided death in a gangland shooting earlier this year has been charged with drug importation offences.

Solicitor Sylvan Singh, 26, is due to face a Sydney bail court on Wednesday morning after being arrested on Tuesday.

The Australian Federal Police have charged him with four counts of attempting to import a commercial quantity of drugs.

Mr Singh was one of several people shot at inside a ute at Church Street, Granville on May 25.

The criminal lawyer survived after sustaining non-life threatening injuries.

Crime figure Dawood Zakaria, 32, died after being shot in the attack a few days later in hospital.

Police have since said they believe the target was former Alameddine crime family associate Samimjan Azari, who also survived the attack.

Four people have been charged over their alleged roles in the execution of Zakaria, including a 15-year-old boy.

Detectives believed the shooting, and several others, were linked to an internal split within the Alameddines as their once-loyal members defected to a rival crime group.

Alameddine crime family boss Rafat Alameddine remains in Lebanon, where he is wanted by Australian authorities on a warrant in relation to another gangland murder.
