It’s official – Toronto retains the crown of ‘Rattiest City in Canada,’ despite Victoria nipping at its heels, according to the latest numbers from Orkin Canada

Toronto is keeping its title as the ‘rattiest’ city in Canada.

Orkin Canada released its 2025 Rattiest Cities ranking on Tuesday between August 1, 2024 and July 31, 2025. and Toronto once again topped the list. The rankings are based on the number of residential and commercial rodent treatments carried out by Orkin Canada

With Toronto in the lead, other cities in Ontario, including Mississauga and Ottawa, were also amongst the top ten rattiest cities in the country, the pest and wildlife control corporation said in a news release.

Bernie Grafe, an area manager with Orkin Canada, told CTV News Toronto that cities with large populations are usually where there are more rats.

“It’s no shock the the top cities that are listed in the report are those typically with the highest population. There’s a symbiotic relationship between rodents and human populations because they rely on our food,” he said.

He added that there has been a “significant” increase this year in the amount of service calls and reported sightings across the country over the past year.

“Last year was particularly a mild winter. There has been significant increase in activity across the country. We try not to release the specific numbers cause that be a little too scary,” he said.

The data, the news release said, provides a snapshot of where rodent pressures are rising and how Ontario communities, and cities across the country, compare.

The company stated in its news release that regions across Canada are seeing a growing rodent population, and it reminded people to take the necessary steps to mitigate rodents from entering their homes and frequenting their property.

The advice, Orkin Canada, includes trimming trees and shrubs, eliminating water sources, sealing entry points and maintaining cleanliness.
