The government’s blitz of antidemocratic legislation can be seen partly, or even primarily, as a particularly noisy campaign by members of the governing coalition to influence their placement on their parties’ next Knesset tickets before the next election. This blitz is particularly present in a few aggressive bills aimed at revamping the Justice Ministry department that investigates police misconduct, intimidating the free media and weakening the attorney general.
