Many communities got PLENTY of snow, but it appears three northwest cities – Bejou, Gonvick and Thief River Falls – wear the crown with 8 inches.
THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — Only in Minnesota would a community covet the bragging rights that come with getting the most snow from a winter storm.Â
And today… at least so far… the crown goes to three cities in far northwest Minnesota; Bejou, Gonvick and Thief River Falls all reported 8 inches of snow as of 11 p.m. Tuesday. The town of Fertile, also in the northwest, is just behind at 7.8 inches.Â
In the next tier are a handful of places that are scattered across north central Minnesota. Among them are Ottertail, Motley and Willow River, which all report 7 inches. Grandy, which is east of St. Cloud and just south of Mora, comes in at 6.9 inches.Â
Here in the Twin Cities, the highest totals come from the north metro. Otsego is digging out from 5.8 inches, Golden Valley comes in at 5.3 inches, Coon Rapids got 4.6 and Ramsey 4.5 inches. The snow totals slid to three inches or less for most communities in the south metro.Â
KARE 11’s John Zeigler notes that many of those totals were reported late Tuesday before midnight, and may go up with new reports Wednesday morning.Â
