Continued flooding has led to a number of additional road closures in and around Abbotsford on Thursday (Dec. 11) evening.

The Abbotsford Police Department shared on social media the following updated road closures:

Vye Road is closed in both directions from Whatcom Road to Sumas Road
Angus Campbell Road in both directions from Boundary Road to South Parallel Road
2nd Avenue is closed east of B Street
South Parallel Road in both directions is closed between Sumas Way and Whatcom Road

Portions of these streets were closed earlier, but due to continue flooding from the Nooksack River more closures were deemed necessary.

Small amounts of daily rain is expected for the next three days, but forecasts do state that close to 30 millimetres are expected for Monday (Dec. 15).

David Campbell, the head of the River Forecast Centre for BC, stated in a press conference on Thursday morning that the Sumas area is now the focus for the next 24 hours.

“We are anticipating to see the continued rise through the Sumas system throughout the day today, into the evening, potentially overnight, and really being into tomorrow before we start to see that whole system receding,” he said. “So really cautioning that while some areas are improving into the valley the Sumas particularly, we do expect to see the potential for ongoing challenging conditions as we go through the day to day.”
