Naomie Harris opted to save her most dramatic look of the Red Sea International Film Festival for the closing ceremony, after teasing us with minimalist choices during her time as a jury member.

Proof that you can’t hide your maximalist heart forever.

The British actress turned again to Saudi designer Tima Abid, but this time the dial was turned all the way up. The gown’s bodice was a shimmering armour of gold discs, catching every eye in the room, while the sculptural teal satin skirt delivered enough presence to fill the entire red carpet. It’s a bold combination — almost operatic — and one that immediately separated her from the more refined silhouettes she wore earlier in the festival.

Will this be divisive? Absolutely. Gold and teal in such exaggerated forms is unlikely to please everyone. Fashion at a festival like this thrives on boldness, and Naomie understood the assignment for a closing night.

I found the styling refreshingly unfussy: a sleek braid down her back, minimal jewellery, and an OMEGA timepiece ever present. It let the gown command the spotlight.

After a week of restraint, Naomie ended her Red Sea reign exactly as she should — with unapologetic glamour and a sense of finale.
