An Aussie woman remains critically unwell in a Vietnamese hospital following a nightmare cosmetic surgery.
Mother-of-three Chloe Mowday, 31, is in a coma after travelling to the country for a minor procedure which horribly went wrong, her brother Rod wrote on a GoFundMe page set up for her.
“Her body had shut down all her organs and she died on the way to hospital,” he wrote.
Though doctors had since “brought her back,” Rod said his sister was in an induced coma and on life support.
“We went straight to Vietnam to see her and she is in a very bad way,” he said.
“It was heartbreaking to see her like that and with the language barrier there it is so hard to understand what has gone wrong and what they are doing.”
Before she became unwell, Ms Mowday had been planning other trips around South East Asia with her husband Josh and their son Elijah as the trio holidayed in the popular tourist destination of Da Nang.
There, she was scheduled to undergo rhinoplasty, a type of nose surgery, and blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, which are both “generally safe” procedures, according to The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons website.
However, Ms Mowday was swifty taken to hospital after becoming unwell the next day.
“She stayed at a clinic in Da Nang overnight and the following morning they took her back to her hotel,” Rod told news.com.au.
“A few hours later she started to deteriorate.”
Rod said Ms Mowday went for a rest but “stopped breathing” after her husband went to check on her.
Her brother believed she fell victim to Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) – though that has not been confirmed.
Ms Mowday’s GoFundMe page had raised over $23,000 as of Monday evening, with the money set to go towards an air ambulance flight to Australia and medical costs.
“The doctors have informed us that she has a better chance of getting through this at home in Australia so we are trying to get her home via air ambulance as soon as possible,” Rod wrote via the page.
He thanked supporters for their “kindness and love” as donations poured in.
“I have a quote for the air ambulance I have on standby is $125,000 paid up front before flying,” Rod wrote.
In an update on the page, he said it was believed Ms Mowday was “getting stronger every day”.
“At this point infection is starting to emerge in certain parts of her body, the doctors are trying their best to fight it,” Rod wrote.
