Evan Ferguson delivered his biggest moment yet in a Roma shirt on Thursday night, scoring a brace in the Giallorossi’s 3-0 win at Celtic Park.
The Irishman has struggled to make an impact since his arrival in Rome over the summer. The buildup to the game saw his manager Gian Piero Gasperini admit Ferguson needed to do more if he was to prolong his stay in the Italian capital.
If the performances to come are like Ferguson’s in Glasgow, Gasperini will be delighted.
An own goal from Ferguson’s Ireland teammate Liam Scales would put Roma 1-0 up after just six minutes, before a tidy close-range finish from the Irish striker put the visitors two to the good.

Things were to get even better shortly thereafter.
In first-half injury-time, Ferguson produced a superb finish on the turn to put Roma three up and reignite his time at the club.

Reports before the game suggested his time at Roma could be over as soon as next month, and Ferguson certainly responded in style.
Post-match, Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini had certainly changed his tune on the young Irishman.

Gasperini hails Evan Ferguson after Celtic Park brace
Speaking to the media after Evan Ferguson fired Roma to victory at Celtic Park, manager Gian Piero Gasperini said the Irishman had delivered the kind of performance the team had been waiting for.
“During the game. he did what he often does in training. He’s a young lad and we have to be patient,” Gasperini said.
“His second goal was beautiful. His performance was great, and it’s important that he plays with this spirit and shows his qualities.”
Ahead of kick-off, Gasperini had admitted to some frustrations with Ferguson’s early displays in a Roma jersey, amid reports that the club were set to cut his loan spell short.
Gasperini would dwell those fears somewhat with his remarks on the January market post-match.
We have to be patient. These young guys could come good. Maybe it’s better that way rather than relying on the market. We’ll talk about the January window moving forwards, now, we have several important games to play.
A night to remember for Evan Ferguson, and one that could be pivotal in prolonging his stay in Italy.
