Media Release
On Dec 11th 2025, the SPS released the names of several wanted individuals on social media, seeking public assistance in locating them. Â One of those individuals was Matthew LUTES, wanted for probation violations and believed to be residing in Petrolia. Â
On December 11, 2025, at approximately 2:52 pm OPP officers attended an Oil Heritage Road (Petrolia) residence in an attempt to locate Matthew LUTES, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant with the Sarnia Police Service (SPS). Upon attending the residence, LUTES refused to exit or to surrender himself to OPP officers. He advised that if Sarnia wanted him, they could come get him. With the residence contained, OPP contacted SPS to determine if SPS wished to pursue this matter further. SPS graciously accepted LUTES’ proposal.Â
The SPS Offender Management Unit (OMU) subsequently obtained judicial authorization (a warrant) to enter the residence. In collaboration with OPP in Petrolia, SPS ERT and K9 teams prepared to attend Petrolia to arrest LUTES.  Â
Officers arrived at the residence at 7 pm. SPS officers announced their presence and intent to enter if LUTES did not surrender. A female party came to the door and was advised of the warrant authorization. She became confrontational with police, including attempting to block police access to the front door. This escalated when she struck one of the officers in the face, resulting in her arrest. Â
Despite repeated call-outs, LUTES refused to exit. SPS ERT subsequently made entry and placed him under arrest. Both parties were transported to SPS HQ for processing.
