A road closure has been put in place in Monaghan Town following a collision.

The incident occurred this morning at Old Cross Square and it’s understood a pedestrian was struck by a HGV.

The road is closed in both directions as emergency services attend the scene.

Gardai have issued Northern Sound with the following statement:

Gardaí and emergency services are currently in attendance at a road traffic incident in Monaghan Town. 

The intersection where Broad Road meets Old Cross Square is closed with local traffic diversions in place.  Motorists are asked to take alternative routes where possible.  No further information is available at this time.
