Jovon Makama’s second half brace notched up a huge three points against the in-form Saints, who arrived in Norfolk on the back of six wins in their previous seven.
Ryan Manning put them back on level terms, but Makama pounced again four minutes later from close range.
Vladan Kovacevic thwarted Adam Armstrong in the first half from the penalty spot, as Clement took his home tally to seven points from nine to move within three points of Portsmouth, who are in 21st place, just above the relegation zone.
