The Met Office has issued another yellow weather warning for severe rainfall affecting seven parts of Wales on Monday. It comes after the forecaster issued a similar alert for parts of mid and north Wales.

The Met Office said that there is a chance that 70mm of rain could fall in some places and warns that the likelihood of disruption, through flooding and transport issues, is likely due to the recent wet weather. The forecast states that a band of rain may become slow-moving and remain over parts of south and southwest Wales on Monday.

The 24-hour warning comes into force at 12.01am on Monday and covers seven areas: Bridgend, Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “A band of rain may become slow-moving across parts of south and southwest Wales during Monday.

“Whilst there is still some uncertainty in how quickly this rain slowly moves southeast across the region, there is a chance that 30-40 mm of rain could fall quite widely with some places seeing 50-70 mm.

“Given the recent wet weather and saturated ground, the likelihood of impacts is higher.”

There is also a yellow weather warning for rain across parts of Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Powys from 3pm on Sunday until 11.59pm on Monday.

Residents are told to expect spray and flooding on roads and transport disruption.

There is also a small chance that communities could be cut off by flooded roads, and affected by power cuts. Some homes and businesses may be flooded.

The warnings come after a week of wet weather caused by Storm Bram, with rivers across Wales bursting their banks.

The Met Office said: “With the ground already wet from previous rainfall, the additional rain falling this weekend could lead to further disruption, particularly in hilly areas where rivers may rise quickly.”
